Boiling away--slow boil that is--is a giant pot of pinto beans.  Soup beans as we say here in the south. I added a couple of ham hocks to season the beans.  Salt will be added at the end of the cooking. 
Beans will be accompanied by a pot of greens--pot 'likker' to be consumed as well.   And  a cast iron skillet of home made crusty cornbread.  Butter, honey, vinegar,  onions and chow chow at the ready as condiments.
Perfect players for a perfect fall day.
